Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about payment, evaluations, scheduling, and private speech therapy.
PAYMENT & INSURANCE
-
I’d keep it in the same answer unless benefit verification is something you want to actively promote as a service.
Do you accept insurance?
Words at Play is a private-pay practice and is not in-network with insurance companies. Payment is made directly to the practice, and families are responsible for the full session fee regardless of insurance coverage. If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be able to receive reimbursement for services. We’re also happy to help you verify and better understand your out-of-network benefits before getting started. -
A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes the information your insurance company may need for an out-of-network claim. We provide superbills so you can submit them directly to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement.
-
No. Reimbursement depends on your specific insurance plan, deductible, out-of-network benefits, diagnosis coverage, visit limits, and allowed amounts. Families are encouraged to contact their insurance company directly before starting services.
-
Yes, many families use HSA or FSA funds for speech-language therapy. Because individual plans vary, we recommend confirming coverage with your HSA/FSA administrator.
STARTING THERAPY
-
No referral is required to contact Words at Play or begin the intake process. However, your insurance company may require one if you plan to seek out-of-network reimbursement.
-
An evaluation is required before beginning therapy so we can understand your child’s current skills and develop an appropriate treatment plan. If your child has had a comprehensive speech-language evaluation within the past six months, we can review the report to determine whether any additional assessments are necessary.
-
Absolutely! Private therapy can work alongside school-based or Early Intervention services and gives us the flexibility to focus on your child’s individual needs and goals
THERAPY & PROGRESS
-
There isn’t one schedule that works for every child. We’ll recommend a frequency based on your child’s needs, goals, and what is likely to support meaningful progress.
-
Every child’s timeline is different. The length of therapy depends on factors like your child’s goals, progress, consistency of sessions, and carry over into everyday life.
-
We’ll keep you updated along the way. Progress is monitored throughout therapy, goals can be adjusted as needed, and you’ll receive practical ideas for supporting your child’s communication between sessions.
COLLABORATION & SUPPORT
-
Yes. With your permission, we’re happy to collaborate with teachers, daycare staff, and other professionals involved in your child’s care when it can help create more consistency and support progress across settings.
-
Yes! Caregiver involvement is an important part of therapy, and we’ll share practical strategies to support communication during everyday routines, play, reading, or daily activities. Home practice is kept manageable so it feels realistic, not overwhelming.
